Simple Organization: Going Crazy with Hooks

Every house has those little, annoying, seemingly unavoidable hang ups. Especially when it comes to organization. Sure, you could California Closet the whole place…but that requires winning the lottery, so you just have to live with things like they are.

Then again, sometimes, just a few dollars can make all the difference in the world.

Not too long ago, I spent about $4 getting a pack of hooks. I had intended to transform the (ugly) inside of a few kitchen cabinets into something like this pin

Well, we haven’t gotten to the pretty background yet, but just having the cups and spoons sorted & NOT having to dig through a drawer saves me a ton of time and frustration.

WEEKS later, I had my husband install more hooks to fix a short-person problem in the kitchen. We keep our silverware in baskets in the cabinets above the stove. This is mostly done to keep the Cub from “cooking” with all the clean silverware. The problem is, some frequently-used items ended up on the top shelf in baskets out of my reach. So…we hooked them.

Then I went hook crazy.

I hooked the cutting boards.

And the things that we didn’t have floor space or storage for in the boys’ room.

Yes, that’s a baby drum set hanging from the wall. Now their music corner (used about once a week) is in order AND we’re not wasting precious floor/playing space.

The last little organizing tip for today doesn’t actually use hooks, but screws and some picture-hanging wire stuff. I might sound like a bad mom here, but I actually really don’t like having the millions of art projects and coloring pages all over the house, refrigerator, cabinets, etc. So, I took one blank wall, 4 screws, 8 clothes pins and some wire and…

Ta-da. Simple. Cheap. Easy and AMAZING.
